What we see in the world is all about the perspective in which we approach it. Today, I was driving with a friend of mine and I saw a gaggle of young children ages ranging anywhere from 5 -9 jogging down a busy road. I thought to myself, how unusual and made a comment referring to the strange sceptical to my friend who was sitting in the passenger seat next to me, at which she responded, “I didn’t even notice”. This happens everyday and is sometimes more obvious than not and vice versa. Perspective is something that is created within our own realities and acts as a filter to everything we see and react to. That was what really drew our attention to Jaruka Kojin’s, “Contact Lens” installation exhibited at the MOT (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo). We adore how this artist has thought of a visual way to explore this concept and have it interact with visitors to show that perspective really has the ability to affect what we see, how we see it and how quickly it can change if one element is altered. The “lens” were made from both flat and warped clear acrylic in varying sizes and strung from the walls and ceiling. By looking through the lenses, images are contorted, flipped and manipulated shifting each visitors experience and perspective in a countless number of ways. We thought we would share this interesting artist with you and perhaps get you thinking about what reality you might have created for yourself through the perspective that you have honed throughout your years of learning and discovery.
