Adults at Play

February 19th, 2012 § 0

We kinda love these little sculpture play things! These colourful little collectables made from Resin are 30 mm in height; the first part of the sculpture is of a lacquered “carved” women in a bent position and the other is different, interchangeable animal heads to go on top of her. Weird and unnecessary, but we love them! It’s kinda like girly lego.

Divine to Sublime – Chicago does it again!

February 12th, 2012 § 0

“Cloud Gate” has been one of Chicago’s most incising tourist attractions. People from all over the world travel to visit, interact and play with the famous Anish Kapoor sculpture, aka “The Bean”. Chicago has shown the world what public art can do for a city – how it drives tourism, memorability and sparks envy around the world. Staying true to its roots, Chicago does it again by incorporating yet another incredible artistic element to its downtown core. The Luminous Field installation was recently installed and decorates the surrounding “Bean” area with light and sound. The installation created by the art ensemble Luftwerk is only temporary, so if you haven’t experienced Cloud Gate in person yet, what better time to plan a trip to the Windy City and take in not only one magical creation, but two and feel for yourselves the impact art has on us all.

Car Love

February 6th, 2012 § 0

They are expensive, need constant maintenance and are basically a liability from the moment your eyes meet. While your mind might be drifting to last night’s disagreement with your partner, we’re actually taking about our love affair with cars!

While watching the Superbowl last night, I couldn’t help but notice the many car ads that graced the air. They are expensive to produce, expensive to drive, but boy do we love the way they look, not to mention the way they make you feel. As a lover of all things beautiful, I too have always had a soft spot for horsepower and sleek car design. While doing some research the other day, I came across a creative underground parking lot that I would proudly park my car in. Check out this amazingly creative and bright spot in Sydney, designed by duo Craig and Karl. One day, I hope to pull up and show my car a good time, rather than always the other way around!

Ce n’est pas une vache!

February 5th, 2012 § 0

And we’re back! It’s a little late, but we’d like to wish all of our readers a fantastic 2012 and year of the Dragon! We’ve had a really great year so far and are excited to announce our representation of Toronto-based Artist and Architect Lawrence E. Glazer! We are happily representing a number of works from Glazer’s recent Passages series. The series explores up-close encounters with a some amazing cow hides at Toronto’s Royal Winter Fair. The images were composed, blurred and deliberately re-structured to open an exploration of form and colour. In the development of the work, limitations of digital imagery such as pixilation and artifacting were deliberately used as compositional tools to further remove the images from their original contexts. The resultant abstractions provide a rich tableau for viewer interpretation. L. E. Glazer’s work can be found in institutional and private collections across North America.

Below are some featured pieces:

Living with Art

October 17th, 2011 § 0

Working in the Art Consulting industry we often visit stunning spaces showcasing sophisticated design, stunning architecture and style. While these qualities are often at play, we sometimes find that the artwork needs to be explored in the same outstanding way. Wall hung paintings and sculpture on plinths is certainly beautiful, although, we believe art can be spotlighted in many interesting, eclectic ways that blur the lines between art and function, high art and found object and the way we choose to interact with art in our space. Below is an inspiring demonstration showing the limitless ways to incorporate art into your space:

We are absolutely in love with this bench showing cast alphabetical letters laying casually, creating a complete line of sight to the traditional sculpture at the end of the hallway.

This is a great example of organic symmetry – using glass domes featuring colourful insects with an organic table sculpture in between.

And of coarse…a couple more!

We thought we share these simple, clean and elegant wire sculptures with some of our minimalist followers. We love that these pieces are large enough in scale to commend attention, however just subtle enough to provide whimsical inspiration. Take a peek at a few below:

Combining Art and Architecture

October 7th, 2011 § 0

It seems two ideas are better than one; and combining art and architecture is a great example! Check out this amazing piece of artwork that greeted visitors who attended the London Design Festival. This gigantic timber wave installation was created by a group of designers for the event and unfolds so eloquently directing people through the entrance of the building. Looking at the building pre-sculpture – the entrance looks wonderfully grand, yet looking at the entrance post sculpture – it is transformed into something truly spectacular!

Hanging Glass Sculpture

September 27th, 2011 § 0

One of our main purposes at Follio Art Consulting is to inspire others through creativity; in a nut shell, that’s why we started our Blog and why we continue to shed light on amazing projects happening around the world. One amazing studio that always gets our blood pumping is the Heatherwick Studio. To say that the creators at this studio are inspiring would be the understatement of the year! We are absolutely in love with their heightened sense of design, art and function! They take form and function to a new level and develop one of a kind projects that are state-of-art. Seriously, looking at these images make us vibrate with excitement and possibility.

It’s terribly difficult to spotlight just one project – but below are images of Bleigiessen which lives in The Wellcome Trust building, London – a biomedical research charity. This piece was created using 142,000 glass spheres suspended on 27,000 high tensile steel wires; 15 tonnes of glass and just under a million metres of wire. We beg of you, take a break from your Facebook browsing and instead check out Heatherwick Studio at: http://www.heatherwick.com
